New Cake For Amelie Customers

The Lamington

Maybe Stacey, our Aussie pastry chef was feeling a little bit homesick. She has been busy creating in her kitchen and the result is this splendid little box of cake known as the Lamington. Pretty much unknown over here the Lamington is as Australian as Vegemite but we are selling them alongside the brioche and tarts. Where we have car washing and jumble sales, the Australian Scouts and guides, who really love these little cakes, have … Continue reading

Amelie and Friends takes to the street

Yesterday we left the comfort of the restaurant and took a stall at the Farmers Market on North Street. Early start for Mary and Vicky to set up the stall and Stacey did the midnight shift to get the bread, brioche and other pastries ready. They arrived warm. Delicious. Lovely to see so many customers out and about. The best reaction was for the huge chocolate meringues which drew in the crowds – some wondering if … Continue reading

How to glamorise a pig’s cheek.

New recipe at Amelie and Friends There is so much that is wrong about this dish it is probably genius in the making. A posh take on the seventies pub classic gammon and pineapple rings. New on the menu at Amelie’s is pork cheek in a pineapple juice marinade, served with glass noodles and steamed broccoli. Over to head chef Joel for the clever bit  – “the 24 hour pineapple juice marinade helps to break … Continue reading

Dettori does it at Goodwood – twice

Two winners in the space of sixty minutes for Franki Dettori at Goodwood today – (Opinion Poll and  Meeznah were the horses by the way).  Pleased as we are for the Italian rider  we would hesitate to invite him down to the restaurant for fear of corrupting him and his strict diet. He has often been quoted as saying “What I would like to eat and what I can eat are two very different things. My … Continue reading

Question: Where to eat, drink and be merry after Glorious Goodwood?

Amelie and Friends Summertime menu

Answer: After Glorious Goodwood head to Amelie and Friends, North Street, Chichester. The summer is whizzing by and the days are getting shorter. Enjoy it while you can. There is no where taking this more seriously than one of the most famous Racetracks in the world, our very own Goodwood. The week from July 26/30 is particularly famed for its sartorial and equine splendour and it is now considered a staple in the social diary of … Continue reading

Linen Suits and Fancy Hats

In a couple of weeks Chichester will be awash with linen suits and fancy hats. We just love it – one of the big markers in the city’s calendar is Glorious Goodwood which runs July 26-30. A thoroughly British institution we know the restaurant will be buzzing with race goers in party mode so we are getting the Prosecco in and Joel in the kitchen is creating a new supper menu – so to make sure … Continue reading

Naughty … but nice

As dear old Barbara Windsor so succinctly put it in those fresh cream cake adverts from the 1980′s “It’s enough to lead a girl astray” and partner in crime Larry Grayson added coyly “trembling with naughtiness … of course the trouble with me is I never could say no.” Pastry Chef Stacey is, of course, too young to recollect this eighties bit of cheeky double entendre over a fondant fancy but her cakes are light as … Continue reading
