HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US

A year. Who would believe it – not us that is for sure – 365 days have flown by since we first opened the doors of Amelie and Friends. So, we are a whole year older but wiser? Who knows. We have celebrated several weddings even more birthdays and an eclectic mixture of business breakfasts, gossipy coffee and cake sessions, dinners a deux  and one boozy new year’s eve party. The kitchen staff have peeled, grated … Continue reading

Mum – Take A Seat

Mixed bouquet or themed box of chocolates? Yes, it is another commercial shebang. But even the most cynical among us will be making a gesture from cheap and cheerful to those which cost a bit more on Sunday 18 March – Mother’s Day.  Keep it simple. Give her a day off.  Book a table at Amelie and Friends for lunch.  Sit her down to a well deserved delicious plate of salmon gravlax or carpaccio of beef … Continue reading

A pancake is forever not just for Shrove Tuesday

Yippee. Today is Pancake Day. One of the most gorgeously satisfying things to look at is “the pancake” each one as unique as a fingerprint. They are the  true 3 ingredient food: egg; flour and milk. Humbly simple to make so no excuse ever to buy some rubbery supermarket version pre-packed. Here, we like pancakes so much we serve them all year long, topped with delicious crisp bacon and Canada’s finest export after William Shatner (aka … Continue reading

Earn Brownie Points this Valentines Day

Love in a cold climate this Valentines Day

Every shop on the high street is a cascade of all things heart shaped. It seems a very short year since last Valentines Day but the calender doesn’t lie and February 14 is here again. Tuesday in our book has never been known for its romance so we are marking this day of commercial love and affection by bumping it forward to a more sensible Saturday night. We salute this festival of Saint Valentine, which curiously … Continue reading

SLOW DOWN THIS CHRISTMAS

The endless family debates about the turkey; the mad dash to the supermarket to buy the Advent Calender; the late night trawling the internet to find out the coolest ‘must have’ gadget; the making of cakes for the school/church/scout fair – is it unseasonal to think “what about me?” Enough already. Come in to the restaurant and learn to love Christmas time as you tuck into a fantastically gooey chocolate brownie or book for a  yuletide … Continue reading

Canape selection in the van

We were thrilled this week to be part of a celebration in North Street. Hennings, the independent Sussex wine merchants, opened a branch in Chichester and we welcome another independent business to town. Their launch party was a very jolly affair and we provided some rather delicious cold canapes. As usual we cooked everything right here and  even through they are only a couple of doors … Continue reading

The Cast and Crew of Sweeney Todd

Not wishing to invade on a private night but our after show wrap party for the cast and crew of Sweeney Todd was fantastic. The whole place was buzzing and everyone was delighted with our tiny cheery, cherry pies. Thankfully more tasty than the ones they ate on stage every night! Reports are just in that the Chichester Festival production of Sweeney Todd will transfer to the West End’s Adelphi Theatre in March 2012, starring Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton as Sweeney … Continue reading

NEW AMELIE VAN DELIVERING THE GOODS

Alright we know it is not as wonderful as a  Citroën H delivery van but we love her just the same. We are now able to spread the word that is Amelie across West Sussex.  As we drove to Pulborough for an outside catering job there is a gentle, refridgeration hum to be heard. The bowls of bulgur wheat salad with Harissa, cumin, lime and parsley and Chichester aubergines with tomato, coriander and Greek yogurt arrive … Continue reading

All work and no play makes Amelie a dull girl

On Monday night when the restaurant was shut, the staff had a get together for a wine tasting. Hosted by the charming Nick Mason of Mason and Mason, who supplies us, there was much scribbling, giggling and spitting going on.  Specialists in organic or biodynamic, the growers work using a minimum of chemical interference and are a solid partner for our food. Now we are open three evenings a week our wine list is playing a … Continue reading
