On Thursday 25th April Joel put the kitchen team into ‘Fine Dining Mode’ and created a wonderful 4 course extravaganza. I have never seen the conservatory look so beautiful with acres of gleaming silverware, sparkling glassware and shining crockery! We enjoyed Slow-Cooked Duck Egg, White Asparagus and Hazelnuts to start, followed by Crab Lasagne with Pickled Ginger and Coconut Foam. The main course was Roast Squab Pigeon with Fresh Peas and Foie Gras, and then for … Continue reading
This St. George’s Day – Tuesday 23rd April – a throng of happy diners joined us at the restaurant for a 3 course feast of great English food: St. George’s Mushroom Soup – appears on St. George’s Day Pork, Apple and Cider Pie – ‘The best pie I ever tasted!’ Treacle Tart – golden, sticky and totally delicious
Right through from Good Friday until Easter Monday we thoroughly spoiled ourselves with a new menu of spring-inspired treats including an indulgent Duck Egg, Bacon and Watercress Salad, a smooth creamy Goats Cheese Soufflé and a cheeky Chocolate Mousse Tart with Orange Sorbet and Popping Candy! By the end of the weekend the fridges were empty, every morsel consumed, proving that a very good time was had by all!
We have super-charged our ever-popular weekday fixed-price lunch menu with a host of fabulous new dishes. From the light and elegant Mozzarella Crostini, Baked Butternut Squash spiced with Ras El Hanout and classic Crème Caramel to the hearty Amelie Cottage Pie with oxtail or the indulgence of Eton Mess there are so many treats to enjoy that it will take several lunchtime visits to sample them all.
Sunday 10th March 2013 saw our first experience of Mother’s Day at Amelie and Friends. It was one of those ‘book early to avoid disappointment’ occasions – we could have filled the restaurant twice over as families travelled from far and wide to meet up in Chichester. But I suppose I should have expected it with menu highlights including spinach soup with poached egg, roast poussin and eton mess. The dining room looked fabulous festooned with … Continue reading
It was a very special Chichester Thursday night with the restaurant full – all laid out for dinner with tables for 2 (and a table of 4 – double date – a great idea!) Kir Royales got the evening started and everyone enjoyed Joel’s exceptional food: Tian of Fresh Crab, Roast Rump of Lamb, Moelleux au Chocolat (to share!). Can’t wait until next year!
Many thanks to Laura Mason of Mason & Mason wine merchants for hosting our fabulous gourmet tutored wine tasting dinner on Tuesday 5th February 2013 at Amelie and Friends Restaurant in Chichester. We enjoyed 3 superb courses prepared by Chef Joel and his team, carefully paired with our finest handmade organic wines and champagne: Salmon Mi Cuit with Fennel Salad and Blood Orange / Muscadet – Roast Pork with Caper Mash, Caramelised Apple, Crackling and Sage … Continue reading
To be honest we weren’t quite sure. Was Chichester ready for Haggis? But to our surprise and delight the restaurant was full. Joel is an accomplished Chef, but he had never cooked haggis, so it was a welcome adventure for the kitchen: Scotch Broth – Haggis, Neaps, Tatties and Whisky Sauce – Cranachan And another discovery: our Malbec is a brilliant accompaniement to Haggis! Of course plenty of Single Malt was consumed too. And next year? … Continue reading
It has definitely been the season to be jolly. We have loved having so many parties in the restaurant this year! Many friends have chosen Amelie and Friends as their venue for get-togethers, which seems appropriate. Big office parties (Wylies and Waterscan are of note) have gone with a swing. (We set a new record of 52 people comfortably seated in the restaurant. Hats off to Yvonne for her table planning skills). A large choir actually … Continue reading
